In the Heat of the Night Page 12

Scowling, Kearnan fisted his hands on his hips. “Dream about the breasts of some other man’s wife. Those belong to me.”

Chuckling, Serena switched her daughter to her other breast. Grabbing a dishtowel, she draped it over her shoulder. “There. How’s that. No more free show.”

Hand over his heart, Brendan sighed.

Before he could say anything, Kearnan growled, “If you start spouting poetry, I’m throwing you out, and you can sleep in the forest tonight.”

Brendan turned a hang dog look Serena’s way. “Can you see what I was forced to endure as I was growing up? Kearnan has no appreciation for the finer things in life, good wine, the theater, museums. Instead he buries himself in the woods. Say the word, Serena, and I’ll sweep you away to real civilization.”

Serena’s laughter was the only thing that kept Kearnan from attacking his brother then and there.

“Brendan, you better shut up before Kearnan rips your head off, and not the one on top of your head.”

Grinning, Brendan bowed. “Welcome to the family, Serena. You’re good for Kearnan. I’m glad my brother found you—and your beautiful breasts.”
